"Why does Safe Trip Home have less electronic bits?"

Hi folks. Here are some more of Dido's answers to the questions you've been sending to askdido@didomusic.com (keep 'em coming!).

Dido replies: Yes I do. I love them and would love to have them if I stop travelling for long enough! I'd have a golden retriever or a labrador.
Hello Dido. When I listen to your first 2 albums, there are a lot electronic bits in it. I always loved that. But with the Safe Trip Home album, you have left those electronic bits out. Or at least, a lot less than normally. What made you decide to change the style of the 3rd album? Or did it just go that way?

Dido replies: I intentionally didn't use any electronics on the 3rd album. It was a challenge that started as a small thought and then turned into a big theme of the record. We had a lot of fun creating sounds from all manner of instruments (bells, wind instruments, strings, brass, pots, pans, cans, sandpaper, anything). This was instead of using anything pre-programmed. It was a great learning experience for me and also made me a much better musician pretty quickly! It's also making me really appreciate the joy of electronics again on this new album I'm making. It's good to take a break and now I'm celebrating my electronic roots again. :-)
Hi Dido, The internet is telling me that your first two albums are pop music, and Safe Trip Home is folk. Do you think they got it right? How do you describe your music?

Hey! Now i'm really excited about your comeback. Safe Trip Home is amazing, but the eletronic sounds are the soul of Dido's songs.I'm very happy about this and i really believe that Dido can do much more that she already done ir her carrer. I love my dogs too, i had 3, but last week one of then died... So sad, and only the owner knows how it hurts. :( And i love your songs. Pop, folk or hip hop (lol). |

hi, sorry for my english (is not my native languaje)...how are u? I love ur music, i have ur 3 albums and the DVD... I love the songs My Life, Take My Hand, Sand In My Shoes and Northern Skies... when i heard the last album i didn´t like it a lot like the other 2 ones. i have the same impression with goldfrapp´s last album... but i apreciate when the artists change and try different things. I hate the way of think "that formula always sells so we can use it always" (a lot of artists do that)... Listening again i can appreciate more the album, in fact, Don´t Believe In Love, is now one of my favorites... I really like the electronic of the 2 first albums. If u back to that or something like that, will be amazing... but if not, i don´t care because i love one thing... your voice... greetings from Chile pd: There´s a chance of see you singing something with Melanie C?... i really love her too. |

I think STH, not having electronic bits is a good idea because a artist needs you grow in music and style. Sometimes it's nice hearing a artist, try different things. I love Runrig, whom started as a celtic band with their first album. and each album has progressed to include rock/celtic. mainstream. Electronic on one album. Then their new album rocky and mellow. I think a artist has to expand their musical styles to pull in new fans. |

Hi I've been a fan for a while now, and just wanted to say its nice hearing your music and amazing voice regardless. I also love all the acoustic stuff you do, I think its really nice hearing your songs stripped back to basics, I really hope you release an acoustic album. But why does no one ever mention your first album Odds and Ends? As it was also a good album and should have had a proper release. Keep making great music! |

i do love the first 2 albums but i think safe trip home is so far your peak of creativity and maturity.deffo ur best album so far and it went well in Greece(where i live).there is so much depth in this album and almost feels like ur voice is reaching a jazz area!musically the album is brilliant and so peaceful and yet so different.am listening to it every day and i am discovering new things each time.its a little music gem for me at least and for the critics!vocally you ve reached a new level and connected way more with the lyrics and music than the previous two.i deffo would hope for a safe trip home vers 2 at sum point!its like u describing ur life in ur album titles as u getting older as we getting older with u as well.no angel in the start(Exploring ur life).life for rent(describing ur life and experiences after the success of no angel) and safe trip home (like u ve arrived to ur destination(well dont get off then we need more albums).i truly love the album (but northern skies,the before the day,grafton street,lets do the things we normally do are perfect!).well done lv!wish ya all the best and cant wait for ur album and tour next year(any chance to come here in Greece). |
